Ayia Napa is proud to have lent it's support to the Special Olympics (Olympic Games for Athletes with disabilities) and host a Small Nations 7-A-Side Football Tournament in the Sports Facilities of the Town during the days of 1st November to the 8th November.
Backed by the Town Hall, the Radiomarthon Foundation (who recently held a 3 day fund-raising events Nationwide) and other local businesses as well as the National Football Federation this tournament sees 11 Countries (with Cyprus having 2 teams) play each other.
As well as the Tournament there will also be the 9th Football Special Olympics conference taking place with delegates from many established Football Countries like England & Romania.

The event itself was a success even though there were only 9 countries attending in the end. Cyprus itself managed to win one of its groups whereas the 2nd Cypriot team didn't do as well. Of the other Countries taking place Luxemburg finished in their group 2nd. It is of note that the groups are set according to ability and not as normal Football Tournaments - hence the word Special. These Football players have some physical disability but show that they can play Football as well as any other normal player if not better.
A further report on the event and some results are included in a later article.
