Local Mayor Antonis Tsokkos has said that "the situation is tragic and we are now on the verge of Catastrophe." The number of foreign teams arriving has fallen thus leading on to knock on effects with regards to the incoming money within the community. The Mayor goes straight to the point in saying "We absolutely need to upgrade our Athletic center. It is sad, but the truth is a lot of the athletic teams arriving are not finding satisfactory conditions and are thus forced to go to other towns."

The Mayor is placing weight on the need to create a modern Athletic Center where the playing fields are located at this present time on the outside of Ayia Napa. The modern Athletic Center is still at the "Master plan" stage with 12 and not 16 football fields but a more diverse center including a closed court and a Swimming pool amongst others. He calls upon the government to support not just the Town but the whole of the Famagusta area. Also he states that the foreigner is not satisfied with the Sun and Sea anymore.
