It's the end of January, the holidays are long gone and Valentines Day is around the corner.

All can mean one thing that Ayia Napa is getting ready for the new tourist season.

As one walks around Ayia Napa, they will notice that many people are starting to fix up their bars/restaurants/clubs etc to get themselves ready for the coming months. You can be sure too that a number of places will be opening up especially for the 14th February and those wanting an excuse to pamper (take out) their other halves to go there.

People are waiting for the new season with excitement & anticipation to see if the change from the Cypriot Pound (RIP) to the Euro will be of benefit to them or a difficult time for them to adjust to. Only time will actually tell which way the people will see which of the two it is.

All pricings should be marked up in both Euro & Cyprus pounds until the end of September the earliest, with the rate of exchange at €1 = CY£0.585274 or CY£1 = €1.708601 (€1.71). That means, any where you see a price, whether it be a ticket, a soft drink, a menu, a price list or whatever you should see pricings in both currencies.

Some places also have available calculators available which are pre-programmed to calculate the cost in CY pounds from Euro or the other way around automatically and the Government has also supplied every household with such a calculator as well in the drive for people to get used to the Euro.

Also, road improvements are also starting to take place in order to sort out the poor conditions of some of the roads which after the rainfall of the last 2 days have become more evident. Now if this has to do more with the Government elections in February or the new Mayor in office it does not matter too much to the locals of Ayia Napa, they are glad to see improvements finally happening.

So, as another day goes on, Ayia Napa continues in a positive mood for the new season to reach us with expectations of different sizes for each person and business.
